Life gives up and Life tries
“Death is not the greatest loss in life. The greatest loss is what dies inside us while we live.”
Norman Cousins
Confession
Whenever I pick-up the newspaper, and after I quickly browse the depressing topics of kidnap, child abuse, oppression around the world, war...I go to the death obituary section.I honestly find comfort in reading this. And especially on the weekend when it's 4 - 5 pages.
Friends who've seen me do this think it's weird and sick.
I think it's my way of honouring the lives of the individuals who are no longer on Earth. But {whatever}...
Well, here are my 3 reasons why I do this;
- Learn of the lives behind the names
- Look for those who've left us "too soon" and understand why they passed away
- Check to see if someone shared the same birth month & date or maybe year!
And after reading yesterday's death memorial pages, I decided to pay a visit to one of Ajax's oldest graveyards. More on this in my next blog...
For the first time, I imagined reading my own obituary and I "felt" sadness for my family and friends, so ... I've decided to put together my wish-list for whenever this happens.
I'm not terrified of dying at all.
It feels so ordinary. It happens all the time. But...I fear for those I leave behind.
